It’s hard to believe but it’s been 35 years since kids’ summers were filled with excited discussions of one of the most mind-blowing events to happen in the Transformers universe. I’m of course referring to the animated movie, released to theaters in August of 1986. The part that had playgrounds across America abuzz? I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say it: the movie had a swearword in it.
There’s also that whole thing with Optimus Prime, but as someone who lived through that tumultuous summer, I can tell you any plot points from the animated movie fell flat compared to a group of 10 year-olds hearing a cartoon character swear.
The fine folks at Shout Factory are re-releasing The Transformers: The Movie for its 35th Anniversary, this time in a 4K remaster in an attractive steelbook casing.

On top of the 4K restoration, you also get a Blu-ray HD version, and there’s a ton of extra content crammed into the steelbook. If you’re like me, and you have the 30th anniversary The Transformers: The Movie Blu-ray steelbook, and you’re on the fence as to whether or not you should buy this one… you know you’re going to anyway. I know I am. I’m part of the problem but I’m not even sorry. I have the clamshell VHS of the movie, so why not add another version?
