The popular Catan tabletop game is getting a special 3D edition, but it won’t come cheap.
Board games and tabletop games often range far and wide in price and Catan 3D Edition is aiming high with its $300 price tag. For reference, Catan’s base version is $55 on the official Catan Shop, which is where this new Catan 3D Edition tabletop game is now available for preorder.
“The island of Catan rises off the table for an immersive experience like no other,” the game’s listing on the shop reads. “Your settlements grow up from fertile grain fields and your cities nestle in the sides of majestic mountains.”
For the most part, Catan 3D Edition is just the classic Catan game that’s been around for almost three decades. The difference is that everything on the board has been hand-sculpted into 3D tabletop pieces by the original creator of Catan, Klaus Teuber.
The pieces used to play the game have always been 3D in tabletop versions of Catan, but now the actual terrain tiles and board itself are 3D. For example, the mountains on the map are now tabletop mountains protruding out of the play board.
The game includes “19 hand-painted 3D terrain hex tiles, 6 hand-painted sea frames, 9 hand-painted harbor markers, 18 translucent number tokens, 4 sets of antiqued 3D player pieces in four colors, 1 antiqued robber figure, 95 resource cards, 25 development cards, 4 building cost cards, 2 special victory points, 2 card trays, 2 custom Catan dice, 1 Rulebook, and 1 Almanac,” according to the listing.
Catan 3D Edition can be preordered now for $300 and it’s still in stock at the time of this writing. Preorders will ship in August, according to the site.
