Nintendo released a new update for the Switch and pulled it down shortly after with zero explanation as to why.

This news comes by way of VideoGamesChronicle, which originally reported on the new 12.0.3 Switch update and everything it entails.

According to VGC, which sourced OatmealDome on Twitter, the 12.0.3 update “fixes error code 2123-1502 when accessing the eShop,” which is an error users have commonly run into as of late.

12.0.3 is out. Nintendo updated:

– package2 (contains OS kernel and key services)
– SSL (helps w/ creating secure connections to a server – seems TLSv1.3 support was dropped?)
– bad words list

Looks to be minor things, I’m going back to sleep

More specifically, the update made changes to the OS kernel and key services, the SSL, which helps with creating secure connections to servers, and the Switch’s list of banned words, as noted by OatmealDome. All in all, it was a relatively minor update.

However, VGC reports that the update was pulled today and at the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to offer any explanation as to why. OatmealDome said on Twitter earlier today that “this is the first time that such a thing has happened on the Switch.”

The update remains suspended so anyone who hadn’t already updated to 12.0.3 won’t be able to do so, which is probably a good thing as it seems Nintendo doesn’t want users to have this update implemented onto their Switch.

One Twitter user, MentalSplinter1, responded to OatmealDome and said that update 12.0.3 is actually causing the 2123-1502 error, which is the error the update reportedly sought to fix, to appear. MentalSplinter1 said they can’t even update Fortnite with 12.0.3 on their Switch.

According to VGC, the last major update for the Switch was Update 11.0.0, which went out last November. That update made it easier to transfer screenshots from the console to a computer and you can read more about everything that update did here.
