Amanda Segal has reportedly been tapped to write 10,000 Ships, HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series about Princess Nymeria.
According to Deadline, HBO has enlisted Helstrom producer Amanda Segal to pen the 10,000 Ships project, which is one of three new Game of Thrones spinoffs currently in the works at the network. The story is set a millennium before the events of Game of Thrones, marking an exploration of a much older mythos than the Westeros timeline, following Princess Nymeria and her surviving Rhoynars.
Segal’s past writing credits include the short-lived Marvel series Helstrom, which was cancelled by Hulu after just one season, as well as CBS’ The Good Wife, on which she also served as a producer. In addition, Segal worked on Spike TV’s Stephen King drama The Mist, CBS’ sci-fi crime drama Person of Interest, and USA Network’s thriller-drama Shooter, starring Ryan Phillippe.
Word of her involvement on the 10,000 Ships series indicates that the series is moving forward at HBO, along with 9 Voyages, which is being developed by Bruno Heller, and Flea Bottom, which currently has no creative attached, but will reportedly revolve around the shady and labyrinthine slum district of King’s Landing that was featured in the first four seasons of Game of Thrones.
In addition, HBO is also said to be developing a series adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas, following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tail and Aegon V Targryen, 90 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. An animated Game of Thrones series is also in early production at HBO Max, though no deal has been inked yet, so it’s entirely possible the series will never materialize.

Another Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, recently entered production after receiving a series order. The series is expected to be set roughly 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, with Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith portraying Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Prince Daemon Targaryen. They’ll be joined by Steve Toussaint’s Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka “The Sea Snake.”
